Hagshaw Hill Wind Farm

Hagshaw Hill Wind Farm is located towards the west of South Lanarkshire, some 2½ miles (4 km) west of Douglas and 5½ miles (9 km) SSW of Lesmahagow. It comprises 26 Bonus B44 windmill generators, each standing 55m (180 feet) high and producing 600 kilowatts of power, giving a total generation capacity of 15.6 megawatts. The farm has been operational since 1995, the first commercial wind farm in Scotland, and was purchased in 1996 by Scottish Power, the privatised utility which is now part of a multi-national energy group. A 26 MW extension was completed in 2008, involving the installation of twenty new Siemens 1.3 MW turbines, bringing the total capacity to 41.6 MW.
