Broad Bay

(Loch a' Tuath)

Broad Bay or Loch a' Tuath is the name given to a large bay on the east coast of the island of Lewis in the Western Isles. It stretches from Tolsta Head, 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Stornoway, to Tiumpan Head at the northern end of the Eye Peninsula and extends inland as far as the settlement of Laxdale. The name is also used as a district, describing the settlements on the west side of the bay; principally Tong, Coll, Back, Gress and Tolsta.
