A substantial three-storey white-washed mansion lying to the north of the A99 Trunk Road in Caithness, Forse House lies 1½ miles (2 km) northeast of Latheron and 2 miles (3 km) west of Lybster. Dating from 1765, the house is set in 9.7 ha (24 acres) of grounds. The present house replaced an earlier property on the same site, which in turn had replaced Forse Castle, situated a mile (1.8 km) to the south southeast. The entrance is through a classical portico featuring four columns, which lies in the centre of a five-bay facade. Several ranges and extensions lie to the rear. Forse was home to the Sutherlands of Forse until 1905. It later became a hotel, then operated as a special-needs care home between 1986 and 2016, and has subsequently become a guest house, cafe, craft centre and event venue, known as the Forse of Nature. It is now Category B-listed, with several original features retained inside. Nearby is a doo'cot and a substantial stone-built steading.
