Greenknowe Tower

Erected in 1581 by James Seton of Touch, the ruined remains of Greenknowe Tower lie just to the west of Gordon in the Scottish Borders. The lands here had been the property of the Gordon family, but passed to the Setons through marriage in the early 15th century. This L-Plan tower comprises a block of four storeys with a stair-wing to the east rising a further storey beyond. The entrance is still protected by a yett and above are the initials and arms of James Seton and his wife, Janet Edmonstone, his wife. Occupied until the 1850s, Greenknowe was passed into state care in 1937 by the then owners, the Dalrymple Family, and is now managed by Historic Environment Scotland.
