Kincraig House

A modest mansion of two storeys and attic with small wings, Kincraig House is located in Upper Speyside a half-mile (0.8 km) northwest of the settlement of Kincraig. Dating from the later 18th C., the house is built of rubble with granite ashlar dressings and yellow-harled to the sides and rear. The centre of the three bays stands proud and is topped with decorative urns, and there is a porch below, added in the 19th C. The wings extend to the rear, forming a U-shaped courtyard, and are named Forbes and Leith after the owner's family. The interior is Adamesque and many period features remain, including a sweeping staircase. The principal rooms enjoy fine views across farmland towards the Cairngorm mountains. There are eight bedrooms.

The house was once at the centre of the Kincraig Estate. The Kincraig Estate is now run alongside the Dunachton Estate and Kincraig House has been let. For a time it was the summer residence of the Duchess of Bedford. It is now B-listed and, following a sympathetic renovation, is used for holiday lets.

A meat larder, sited on a knoll nearby to catch cooling winds, is an unusual survival.
