Glenkiln Reservoir

A reservoir created in 1934 in Kirkpatrick Irongray Parish, Dumfries and Galloway, Glenkiln lies on the Old Water, to the northwest of Shawhead and 6 miles (10 km) west of Dumfries. It is operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water and covers an area of 32.7 ha (80 acres). In the open landscape to the west stand the Glenkiln Sculptures, a series of notable modern artworks placed here by landowner Sir William Keswick from the early 1950s. There are walks in the neighbourhood reaching the top of Bishop Forest Hill.
