Nant Power Station

An undergound hydro-electric power station on the northwestern shore of Loch Awe, the Nant Power Station is located 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Kilchrenan in the Nether Lorn district of Argyll & Bute. It was commissioned in 1963 as part of the Sloy-Awe Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. The station takes its water from Loch Nant, 2 miles (3 km) to the northwest, which provides a head of 172m (564 feet). Nant generates 15 MW of power with the water passing into Loch Awe and thus providing further generation potential for the station at Inverawe. The scheme is operated by the Perth-based utility company Scottish and Southern Energy plc.
