Beinn Tharsuinn Wind Farm

Located on the northeastern slopes of Beinn Tharsuinn in Easter Ross, the Beinn Tharsuinn Wind Farm comprises a total of 19 three-bladed turbines and has a total generating capacity of 34.35 MW. An original group of 17 Vestas V66 turbines, each producing 1.75 megawatts (MW) of energy and with 66m (216 feet) diameter rotors, were commissioned in 2006. Two Enercon E70 turbines, with 71-m (232-foot) diameter blades and each generating 2.3 MW, were added three years later. The wind farm is owned and operated by Scottish Power, part of a multi-national utilities group, and contributes approximately £60,000 per annum for the benefit of projects in the local community through a fund administered by Highland Council.
