Carcant Wind Farm

A small wind farm in the Moorfoot Hills, Carcant occupies slopes on either side of the Heckle Burn, 2½ miles (4 km) west of Heriot in the N Scottish Borders. Commissioned in 2010, it comprises three 2.3 MW Siemens turbines, but grid-connection restrictions limit the total output of the farm to 6 MW. The blade diameter is 101m (331 feet). Developed by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), it was sold to the investment fund Greencoat UK Wind in 2013, although is still run on their behalf by SSE. The operators provide around £14,000 per year for community and charitable projects in the local area, through a community fund.
