Trondra Bridge

A single-carriageway bridge which connects the Shetland Mainland with the island of Trondra, the Trondra Bridge crosses the Clift Sound a half-mile (0.8 km) south of Scalloway. Along with the Burra Bridge, this was constructed in an attempt to halt the depopulation of the islands, which proved successful. It was opened on 18th October 1971 by George Younger (1931 - 2003), then Under Secretary of State for Scotland.
