Tam Dalyell House

(County Buildings)

Located next to the older Linlithgow Sheriff Court on the High Street, Tam Dalyell House represents the former County Buildings, reflecting Linlithgow's past status as the County Town of West Lothian (Linlithgowshire). Opened 1940, this two-storey Neo Classical edifice was the work of J. Walker Todd of the architectural practice of Dick Peddie, Todd and Jamieson. Begun in 1935 and constructed in sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins, the building features a traditional slate roof. War memorials are displayed in the entrance hall while outside is a decorative Provost's lamp standard displaying the Linlithgow coat of arms. The County Buildings were B-listed in 1992.

Under-utilised since local authority administration moved to West Lothian Civic Centre in Livingston in 2009, West Lothian Council refurbished the building to form Linlithgow Partnership Centre, incorporating the town's library and community police station. The Linlithgow Museum moved here in 2019.
