Craig Wind Farm

(Carlesgill Hill Wind Farm)

A small wind farm in NE Dumfries and Galloway, Craig Wind Farm, sometimes referred to as Carlesgill Hill Wind Farm, is located on the ridge which connects Clagsberry Hill with Carlesgill Hill, 2½ miles (4 km) west northwest of Langholm. The farm was developed by the local landowner, who farms sheep here. Following a lengthy and difficult process to obtain planning permission, the farm was commissioned in 2007. It comprises a line of four Nordex N80 turbines, each producing 2.5 MW of power, giving a total output of 10 MW. Each turbine is mounted on an 80m (262 feet) tower and has the blades have a diameter which is also 80m (262 feet). The farm was sold by its original developer to a commercial company, Partnerships for Renewables, in 2012.
