Kip Marina

A sizeable marina on the Firth of Clyde, Kip Marina occupies former mudflats at the mouth of the Kip Water. This was Scotland's first marina, developed by Derek Holt (1929 - 2010) who had a successful holiday park at Cloch Point, 2½ miles (4 km) to the north. An enthusiastic sailor, Holt was aware of the accessibility benefits of pontoons over traditional moorings, and the safe and secure marinas which were being developed abroad. The first phase with more than 250 berths was completed in 1971. The marina had expanded to 600 berths by 1985, with the development of associated facilities, including showers and toilets. The Chartroom Bar & Restaurant was established in 1985. A new Ship's Chandlers was provided in 2004. The marina includes sales, repair and training facilities. The modern pontoons are lit and have electric points at every berth.

The marina plays host to Scotland's Boat show each October and remains in the ownership of Holt Leisure Parks. The surrounding area has been developed with harbourside housing.
