Birnie Memorial Bridge

(Birnie Bridge)

A slender three-span footbridge at the mouth of the River Ugie in Aberdeenshire, the Birnie Memorial Bridge (or Birnie Bridge) was built in 1991 as a replacement for an original concrete structure which opened in 1925 at a cost of £2728. This earlier bridge was the gift of local philanthropist Alexander Birnie, who had made his fortune in Australia, and dedicated to his father, George Birnie, who had served as the harbourmaster at Peterhead. The new bridge was funded by Banff and Buchan District Council, Peterhead Feuars Managers and Peterhead Golf Club.

The bridge provides the only direct access from the town to Peterhead Golf Course.
