Torwoodlee Tunnel

A short railway tunnel in the Scottish Borders, Torwoodlee Tunnel lies on the rejuvenated Borders Railway 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Galashiels, cutting through a promontory on the left bank of the Gala Water. It was built in 1849 but fell from use with the closure of the Waverley Line in 1969. However the tunnel was refurbished and brought back into use to serve the new line in 2015. Torwoodlee Tunnel has stone portals to the north and south and is 62m (203 feet) in length.
