St Maurice's High School

A six-year co-educational Roman Catholic secondary school in the Westfield district of Cumbernauld (North Lanarkshire), St. Maurice's High School is located a half-mile (1 km) west southwest of the town centre. Its name comes from the patron saint of the settlement of Bron in France which is the twin-town of Cumbernauld. Opened in 1975, the school was extended in 1981 to cope with rising pupil numbers. The school roll is currently 951 (2015) but the school has the capacity for 1286 pupils. The school divides its pupils into five houses; namely Benedict, Boniface, Francis, John Paul and Innocent. There are 72 teaching and 28 support staff (2015). The main building contains the administrative offices, classrooms, an assembly hall, dining room and staff rooms at ground level around two landscaped internal courtyards. Above this is a much smaller two-storey block with classrooms for science, home economics, business studies and religious education. A separate block houses a drama studio, gym, swimming pool, games hall and changing rooms. The extension contains classrooms for maths, history, modern studies, music and art, together with further staff offices and a conference room. This extension block was badly damaged by fire in 2003 and had to be rebuilt the following year. Sport facilities are a priority at St. Maurice's; a state-of-the-art sports hall funded by the National Lottery and Sportscotland opened in 2006, while football, hockey and rugby pitches and an athletics track lie behind the school. Sports facilities are available to the community outside school hours.

The school serves the west side of Cumbernauld and maintains relationships with several local Roman Catholic primary schools from which their intake is primarily drawn; namely Holy Cross Primary in Croy, St. Helen's Primary (Condorrat), St. Patrick's Primary (Kilsyth) and St. Michael's Primary in Moodiesburn.

To the south is St. Maurice's Pond.
