Coatbridge Campus of New College Lanarkshire

(Coatbridge College)

A further education institution in the Dunbeth district of Coatbridge (North Lanarkshire) opposite Coatbridge High School, the Coatbridge Campus of New College Lanarkshire began as Coatbridge College in 1865. As such it claims to be Scotland's oldest further education institution. Originally focussed on science and mining, the college developed course in commerce in the 1970s and the buildings were expanded in the 1980s. Coatbridge College benefited from a major refurbishment between 2009-12 and became part of New College Lanarkshire in 2014. The Coatbridge Campus offers a range of full-time, part-time and distance learning courses from school certificate to degree-level. Courses include beauty & holistic therapies, business & management, computing & creative technologies, early education & childcare, hairdressing & make-up artistry, health & social care, performing arts & science. There are supplementary campuses at Greenhills in Coatbridge, where automotive courses are based, and at Duart House on Strathclyde Business Park, which is home to dental studies. The Ian Bannen Lecture Theatre commemorates the actor who was raised in Coatbridge.
