Bellgrove Railway Station

(Doire Fhuath-Mhuc)

Bellgrove Railway Station (known in Gaelic as Doire Fhuath-Mhuc) is situated on the North Clyde Line, between Dennistoun and Calton, 1¼ miles (2 km) east southeast of the city centre. Opened by the North British Railway in 1870, it is preceded by High Street Railway Station, a half-mile (1 km) to the west northwest. The line splits to the east, with one branch connecting to Duke Street Station, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east northeast, while the other proceeds to Carntyne Station, 2 miles (3 km) to the east. It now comprises a single island platform and is operated by ScotRail. The station is unstaffed and is used by 425,160 passengers per annum (2009-10). A collision between two trains here in 1989 killed two people and injured 54.
