Carnoustie Railway Station

(Càrn Ùstaidh)

Carnoustie Railway Station (referred to as Càrn Ùstaidh in Gaelic) lies on the northern shore of the Firth of Tay, just to the south of the town centre. Carnoustie gained its first station on the Dundee & Arbroath Railway in 1838, a short distance to the west of the current location. This two-platform station opened in 1900, although the original station buildings, with canopies over the platforms, were replaced with utilitarian passenger shelters in the 2000s. A steel-lattice footbridge connects the platforms. Operated by ScotRail, Carnoustie Station is unstaffed and is used by more than 100,000 passengers per annum (2012). It lies on the East Coast Main Line, preceded by Golf Street Railway Station, a half-mile (1 km) to the west southwest, and followed by Arbroath, 6 miles (10 km) to the northeast.
