Cleland Railway Station


(Omoa Railway Station, Clealand)

A railway station in North Lanarkshire, Cleland (referred to as Clealand in Gaelic) is situated on the Shotts Line, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) northeast of the village centre, and to the south of Parkside. Opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1869, it was originally known as Omoa Station after the nearby Omoa Iron Works until 1930. It comprises two platforms and is now operated by ScotRail. Cleland Railway Station is unstaffed and was used by 89,850 passengers per annum in 2016-17, a significant increase from 72,386 in 2009-10. It is preceded by Hartwood Railway Station, 2¾ miles (4.5 km) to the east, and followed by Carfin, 2 miles (3 km) to the west.
