Inverkeithing Railway Station (Gael: Inbhir Chèitinn) lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) north of the centre of Inverkeithing in Fife, serving both the East Coast Main Line and the Fife Circle Line. It opened on the Dunfermline & Queensferry Railway in 1877 but was soon taken over by the North British Railway, who reopened it in 1890 as a more significant double-track station at the start of a new approach to the Forth Bridge. Now operated by ScotRail, Inverkeithing Station is staffed part-time and is used by 943,400 passengers per annum (2009-10), making it the second busiest of the Fife stations. It is preceded by North Queensferry Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the south. Followed Inverkeithing are a triangle of junctions (Inverkeithing Central, Inverkeithing North and Inverkeithing East) where the Fife Circle splits from the East Coast Mainline. Inverkeithing South Junction takes good trains to industrial sidings by Inverkeithing Bay and on to Rosyth Naval Dockyard.
