Milngavie Railway Station

(Muileann-Gaidh)

Milngavie Railway Station (Gael: Muileann-Gaidh) represents the busy commuter terminus of the Milngavie branch of the Argyle Line and North Clyde Line, in the centre of Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire. This station opened on the Glasgow & Milngavie Junction Railway in 1863. The station comprises two platforms (a third closed in 1983) and B-listed station buildings which include a canopy over the platform supported on decorative cast-iron columns. Now operated by ScotRail, Milngavie Station is staffed part-time and is used by almost one million passengers per annum (2015). It is preceded by Hillfoot Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the south, along a line reduced to a single track in 1992.
