Forming part of an important transport interchange on the north bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow, Partick Railway Station is the sixth busiest in Scotland. Known in Gaelic as Partaig, this station serves a both the Argyle Line and the North Clyde Line and is located on the southern edge of Partick, to the north of the A814 Clydeside Expressway.
This station was opened in 1979. The previous Partick Central and Partick West Stations, which opened on the Lanarkshire and Dunbartonshire Railway in 1896, had closed in 1964. Partickhill Station, on the Stobcross Railway, opened in 1874 was known as Partick until 1954 and closed in 1979. Now operated by ScotRail, Partick Railway Station is staffed part-time. Passenger numbers have risen steadily from 2,070,034 passengers (2009-10) to 3,026,006 (2016-17), with easy access to the adjacent bus station and nearby station on Glasgow Underground.
The Argyle Line and the North Clyde Line split at Kelvinhaugh Junction to the southeast, and Partick is preceded by Exhibition Centre Railway Station, 1¼ miles (2 km) to the east southeast, on the Argyle Line, and by Charing Cross Railway Station, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the east southeast, on the North Clyde Line. Partick is followed by Hyndland Railway Station, a half-mile (1 km) to the north northwest.
