Pollokshaws East (known in Gaelic as Pollokshaws an Ear) is a suburban halt on the Cathcart Circle Line, located a quarter-mile (0.5 km) south southwest of Shawlands and a similar distance west of Langside in Glasgow City. This station lies on the western arm of the Cathcart District Railway, which opened in 1894. It comprises a rather stark curved island platform, with small utilitarian passenger shelters, the picturesque original station building having been demolished. There were originally goods sidings here, lying to the east of the station, on the opposite side of Kilmarnock Road. Now operated by ScotRail, Pollokshaws East Railway Station is unstaffed and was used by 425,492 passengers per annum (2016-17), a significant increase from 255,824 passengers in 2009-10. It is preceded by Langside Railway Station, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the southeast, and followed by Shawlands, a similar distance to the north northwest.
