Royal Mail's Scottish Distribution Centre

Located at Netherton Industrial Estate in Shieldmuir (North Lanarkshire), a mile (1.6 km) west of Wishaw town centre, Royal Mail's Scottish Distribution Centre opened in 1998. Comprising a large building with a curved aluminium roof, the distribution centre provides for the transfer of mail between trucks and trains. It includes a dedicated railway terminal which is the northern terminus of Royal Mail's rail-based distribution system, from which trains connect with similar distribution centres in Wembley (London) and in Warrington. The centre has its own railway loop lying next to the West Coast Main Line and train services are currently operated by DB Schenker, a subsidiary of the German national rail operator Deutsche Bahn AG, who operate from the nearby Eurocentral Rail Terminal.
