Bankend Rig Wind Farm

Bankend Rig Wind Farm lies within plantation forest in the W of South Lanarkshire, a half-mile (1 km) southwest of Glengavel Reservoir and 5 miles (8 km) north northwest of Muirkirk in East Ayrshire. It comprises eleven Siemens turbines, arranged in two rows. Each wind turbine is rated at 1.3 MW, is 100m / 328 feet in height and has a blade diameter of 62m / 203 feet. The total capacity of the farm is 14.3 MW.

The project was designed and is maintained by SgurrEnergy, now a Glasgow-based arm of the Wood Group, on behalf of the owner, Wilson Renewables. The original developer was Perth-based civil engineering contractor, I & H Brown. The wind farm became operational on 27th March 2013.

It is estimated that Bankend Rig Wind Farm will produce 33 GWh of electricity annually.
