A business park on the western edge of Livingston in West Lothian, Alba Campus 1½ miles (2.5 km) west southwest of the town centre at Almondvale. This low density office and commercial development is set within an attractive parkland setting with mature woodland and water features. The 38.4 ha / 94.9 acre business park has been developed from 1998 as a joint venture between Scottish Enterprise, Miller Group and Bank of Scotland. The park remains only partially developed and has struggled to attract tenants after the recession of 2007.
The Campus comprises five modern shared office buildings; namely the Alba Centre, Alba Innovation Centre, Alba Pavilions, Integration House, Systems House and Watermark. Each represents striking contemporary architecture and provides high-quality office accommodation from small office suites to bespoke headquarters buildings. In addition there is a £7.5-million pharmaceuticals research centre built for US-based IQVIA/Quintiles in 2009, and a state-of-the-art whisky bottling plant for Glenmorangie that opened in 2010 at the cost of £40 million.
The Alba Centre building was completed 2001, the work of Michael Laird Architects. Alba Pavilions comprise eight separate office blocks extending to 2921 sq. m (31,443 sq. feet) which were completed in 2008 by Miller Developments at a cost of £10 million.
Integration House was built in 1999 and comprises 2447 sq. m (26,345 sq. feet) of office space over three floors. Systems House dates from 2004, occupies a site of around 0.69 ha (1.7 acres) and comprises 3705 sq. m (39,882 sq. feet) of flexible, open plan leasehold office accommodation over three floors. Systems House includes the offices of West Lothian Chamber of Commerce.
Watermark is the largest office building on the Alba Campus, occupying a prominent position at the entrance. It opened in 2000 and is home to media giant Sky and computer chip design studio Cadence Design Systems.
Alba Innovation Centre provides serviced office space and incubation services for start-up businesses. Developed by Scottish Enterprise and West Lothian Council, Alba Innovation is operated by Innovation Centres Scotland, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lanarkshire Enterprise Services Ltd, a not-for-profit social enterprise focused on the provision of business support services and office accommodation for small businesses.
