Brucefield

A peripheral industrial district of Livingston in West Lothian, Brucefield is located to the southwest of Bellsquarry, 1½ miles / 2.5 km southwest of the town centre at Almondvale. It takes its name from a Brucefield House and farm once located here, with East Brucefield next to the hamlet of Bellsquarry. Brucefield Mine or Bell's Quarry produced limestone. Today, the area comprises large factory units regularly spaced across the site. Although outside the 'designated area' for the New Town of Livingston, the industrial park was developed from 1977. The modern streets are all 'Squares', named after notable British scientists, for example Bell Square, Brewster Square, Cochrane Square, Hutton Square, Maxwell Square, Rutherford Square and Young Square.

A major fire destroyed the Amcor Flexibles factory in 2010 and cloaked the area with toxic smoke, causing the evacuation of business, the suspension of train services and the closure of schools, with nearby resident told to remain indoors. Amcor later announced they would not rebuild the factory, which produced packaging for the snacks and confectionery sectors, with the loss of 77 jobs.
