RAF Banff Strike Wing Memorial

Located in a lay-by on the south side of the A98 trunk road in Aberdeenshire, the RAF Banff Strike Wing Memorial lies 2¼ miles (3.5 km) east southeast of Boyndie. Erected in 1989, the memorial comprises a square granite block with a plaque commemorating the 80 airmen who died serving in multi-national squadrons during World War II. The Strike Wing was formed at RAF Banff in 1944 specifically to target German supply ships and U-boats in the North Sea and off the Norwegian coast. An additional smaller memorial was added in 1992 to commemorate the training achievements of No. 14 Advanced Flying Unit.

Both memorials were toppled by a drunk driver in 2018, but later restored.
