The Hill of Towie Wind Farm extends over three summits within the Drummuir Estate of E Central Moray; namely the Hill of Towie, Knockan and Machattie's Cairn. Commissioned in 2012, it was developed by the Hertfordshire-based Renewable Energy Systems (RES) and officially opened by Richard Lochhead MSP. The farm comprises 21 Siemens turbines, each generating 2.3 MW of power, giving a total output for the site of 48.3 MW. The blades have a diameter of 93m (305 feet). A community fund provides more than £78,000 annually to support local projects.
The developers were given planning permission for a 16-turbine extension in 2017.
