Achairn Wind Farm

Located on Achairn Farm in E Caithness, this development comprises three large wind turbines, 4 miles (6.5 km) west of Wick. Commissioned in May 2009, the REpower MM82 turbines are mounted on 59-m / 190-foot high towers, have 82-m / 269-foot diameter blades and each produce 2.05 megawatts (MW) of electricity, giving a total generation capacity of 6.15 MW. Having been inspired to develop wind resources by flying a kite, the facility is owned and operated by the farm as a diversification project. It lies just a mile (1.8 km) east southeast of Wathegar Wind Farm.
