Former Drybrough Brewery, Craigmillar

Holyrood Business Park occupies the older part of the former Drybrough Brewery located on Duddingston Road West, to the northwest of Craigmillar in Edinburgh. Andrew Drybrough's brewery moved here from the city centre in 1892, taking advantage of land next to the Southern Suburban Railway and a good supply of water. Also known as Craigmillar Brewery, this was the second of up to seven breweries which operated in this area (there was more than one known as Craigmillar Brewery), and the last to survive, taken over by the London-based Watney's in 1965. The brewery closed in 1987 and the more modern part was redeveloped as flats, with the former brewery remembered in a street name - Drybrough Crescent. The remaining traditional brewery buildings (maltbarn and brewhouse) are B-listed but rather unloved, in much the same condition as when the brewery closed despite being occupied by small businesses. Nearby tenements were built to house the workers.
