Whiteash Cairn

A substantial pyramidal obelisk on the lower of the two summits of Whiteash Hill in Moray, the Whiteash Cairn is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) east southeast of Fochabers. Constructed of rubble, with bull-faced quoins, in 1892, it commemorates of Frances Harriet Gordon-Lennox, Duchess of Richmond (1824-87), it reaches 9.1m (30 feet) in height and was once a prominent landscape feature but is now hidden by the surrounding Whiteash Hill Wood (part of the Speymouth Forest). C-listed since 1988, it is said to lie on the site of Ranald's Cross.
