Charles Black


1807 - 1854

Publisher. In 1807, he set up the company of Adam and Charles Black in Edinburgh with his uncle to sell books. They began publishing in 1817 and were able to purchase the rights to the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1826) and to Sir Walter Scott's novels (1854).
