(William) Grant Stevenson

1849 - 1919

Sculptor. Born in Ratho, Stevenson partnered his older brother David Watson Stevenson (1842 - 1904) in the firm of D.W. & G. Stevenson. Based in Edinburgh, his works include statues which form part of the Scott Monument in the city, a monument to the poet Robert Burns (1759-96) in Kilmarnock, a bronze relief on the grave of decorator Thomas Bonnar (1810-73) in Dean Cemetery, but is perhaps most noted for the enormous William Wallace Statue in Aberdeen.

He died in Edinburgh and is buried in Grange Cemetery next to his brother, his grave marked by a bronze plaque which was the work of his friend and pupil H.S. Gamley (1865 - 1928).
