Marti Pellow

(Mark McLachlan)

1965 -

Vocalist with pop group Wet Wet Wet. Born Mark McLachlan in Clydebank, where he was educated at the High School in the town. Pellow was his mother's maiden name. Together with his school-friends, Pellow formed the band Vortex Motion in 1983, which played the bars of Clydebank and later changed its name to Wet Wet Wet. Their debut single was Wishing I was Lucky, released in 1987. The group had twelve 'Top Ten' hits in Britain, including three singles which reached No. 1 in the charts; namely With A Little Help From My Friends (1988), Goodnight Girl (1991) and Love is all Around (1994), which stayed at the top for fifteen weeks and was also an international hit.

Pellow left the group in 1999 having suffered from drug addiction and alcoholism, but having entered a recovery programme was able to embark on a solo career the following year.
