Noble and High Chancellor of Scotland. A powerful noble, Gordon married Princess Annabella, the daughter of King James I (1394 - 1437). He succeeded his father, Alexander Gordon the 1st Earl, in 1470. Gordon completed the work on Huntly Castle, which his father had begun. He served as High Chancellor of Scotland for three years from 1498.
His eldest son, Alexander, became the 3rd Earl. Of his others sons, Adam became Earl of Sutherland and William was a maternal ancestor of the poet Lord Byron. A daughter, Katherine, married Sir Matthew Cradock and gave rise to the Earls of Pembroke.
