Dorothy Wordsworth

1771 - 1855

Poet and diarist. Sister of poet William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850), she kept journals detailing the life and travels of her brother and herself. Although English, the Wordsworths travelled north of the border on several occasions, notably undertaking a six-week trip recounted in detail in her celebrated journal Recollections of a Tour made in Scotland A.D. 1803. She suffered from mental illness, living with William and his wife Mary, and became an invalid in her later years.
