(Matthew ) Quintin Jardine


1945 -

Novelist. Born in Motherwell (North Lanarkshire), Jardine was educated at the High School of Glasgow and briefly read law at the University of Glasgow. In 1964, he began in journalism working for the Motherwell Times for seven years. He joined the Government Information Service in the Scottish Office in 1971, advising Ministers and senior civil servants. He spent time in the Scottish Office Publicity Unit, responsible for media coverage of Royal Visits. He worked as a media consultant for the Conservative Party but, in 1986, set himself up as an independent media relations consultant. He also began writing crime thrillers, with his first Skinner's Rules published in 1993. These now comprise two different series, the first featuring the tough Edinburgh-based Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner and the second created around Scottish private detective Oz Blackstone. By 2011, Jardine had published thirty novels.

He now lives in Gullane (East Lothian), with a second home in Spain.
