Vincent Winter


1947 - 1998

Child actor and film-maker. Born in Aberdeen, Winter made his debut in The Kidnappers (1953), winning a Special Oscar the following year along with his co-star and fellow Scot Jon Whiteley (b. 1945). This was followed by The Bridal Path (1959), based on a Nigel Tranter novel, and Almost Angels (1962). Thereafter Winter appeared in the Walt Disney favourites Greyfriars Bobby (1961), starring Donald Crisp (1880 - 1974), Andrew Cruickshank (1907-88), Gordon Jackson (1923-90), Duncan Macrae (1905-67) and Alexander Mackenzie (1885 - 1965) and The Three Lives of Thomasina (1964), with Finlay Currie (1878 - 1968) and Alexander Mackenzie.

His later career involved working behind the scenes as assistant director or production manager for the Superman films (1978, 1980 and 1983), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), The Colour Purple (1985), Kenneth Branagh's Henry V (1989) and Restoration (1995).

Winter died in Surrey (England).
