Pioneering ear surgeon. The son of Scottish parents, Morrison spent his early years in Spain where his father was a mining engineer. He returned to Scotland for his education, at Stirling High School and then graduating from the University of Glasgow with a medical degree in 1948. He began his career in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, but moved south to London in 1951. He served as a Consultant in the London Hospital (1964-86) and was also a respected teacher. Morrison became an early proponent of micro-surgery and introduced several novel surgical techniques; namely for the removal of acoustic nerve tumours, the restoration of hearing to those suffering from otosclerosis and the treatment of Ménière's Disease. He led a team which developed cochlear implantation.
Morrison reached the highest offices of his profession and was appointed a Freeman of the City of London.
