Comedian. Born in Glasgow, Hemphill was brought up in Canada, returning to Scotland to study at the University of Glasgow. He made his debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1990. He stars alongside Ford Kiernan (b. 1962) in Chewin' the Fat (1999) and Still Game (2001).
He was elected Rector of the University of Glasgow in 2001, serving a three-year term.
