Sir (Michael) Hugh Shaw Stewart


(8th Baronet of Greenock and Blackhall)

1854 - 1942

Landowner and politician. The son of Sir Michael Shaw Stewart (1826 - 1903) and a direct descendant of Robert III, Shaw Stewart was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He served for a time as a Captain in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, but was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for East Renfrewshire in 1886, holding the seat until 1905.
