Francis (Frankie) Boyle

1972 -

Comedian. Born in Pollokshaws (Glasgow), Boyle was educated at Holyrood Roman Catholic Secondary School and the University of Sussex, where he read English. He began training as a teacher in Edinburgh, but changed career following success in stand-up comedy. Noted for his black comedy, Boyle became a regular on the BBC television panel game Mock the Week (2005-09). He left, criticising the BBC for its cautious attitude to his controversial comedy and for censoring his art. He wrote a humorous column for the Daily Record newspaper, but left them for similar reasons, now writing for the Sun. He has also broadcast on radio and regularly appears live. He published My Shit Life So Far in 2009. A recovering alcoholic and former drugs user, Boyle lives in Glasgow with his wife and family.
