Iron-master and philanthropist. Born at Ballevain, the son of a tacksman and tenant farmer, Fleming moved to Glasgow and rose to become a partner in the Iron Works of William Baird & Co. Ltd. He bought the Kilmaho and Oatfield estates in Kintyre in 1890 and made Oatfield House his country seat. Fleming was a noted philanthropist improving the farms on his estates to benefit his tenants and giving monies towards public works in Campbeltown.
He died unmarried.
