David Henderson

? - c.1788

Architect and mason. Raised in Sauchie (Clackmannanshire), Henderson moved to Edinburgh where he gained a reputation as a bridge-builder. He repaired William Mylne's North Bridge in the city, having failed to secure the contract himself. He was also responsible for the Forteviot Bridge (1761) over the River Earn, the Auldgirth Bridge (1782) over the River Nith and the Pease Bridge (1786) over the Pease Burn. His other works include Inverleith House (1774) and most likely Boquhan Old House (1784).

His son John was responsible for the Assembly Rooms on Edinburgh's George Street (1782-87) and wings on Amisfield House (1785; subsequently demolished), but died in 1786. The father died only two years later.
