Jo Swinson


1980 -

Politician. Born in Milngavie (East Dunbartonshire), Swinson was educated at Douglas Academy and the London School of Economics. She was elected for the Liberal Democrats in East Dunbartonshire in the General Election of 2005, becoming the youngest Member of Parliament at 28. She entered government with the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition of 2010, serving as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills (2010-12), PPS to Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg (2012), Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (2012-15) and Junior Equalities Minister (2012-15). She lost her seat in reaction against the Liberal Democrats in the General Election of 2015. She is married to Duncan Hames, another Liberal Democrat MP, who also lost his seat in 2015.
