Philosopher and reformer. Born in Kinnaird (Perthshire), the son of a clergyman, Mylne was educated at the University of St. Andrews. He was ordained as a Minister in Dundee in 1779 and went on the serve as a Deputy Chaplain to the 83rd Regiment of Foot and later as a Minister at Paisley Abbey. He was appointed to the Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of Glasgow in 1797 and served in that role until his retirement in 1837 at the age of 80. Mylne promoted the philosophy of radicalism and was accused of treason after he was said to have offered prayers for Napoleon in 1815. He died in Glasgow.
