David Smythe


(Lord Methven)

1746 - 1806

Judge. Born in Methven Castle, Smythe studied law and was called to the Bar in 1769. He went on to serve as Sheriff Depute of Perthshire from 1786 and then was elevated to the bench as Lord Methven in 1793. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1788.

He died at his home at 28 St. Andrew Square in Edinburgh and lies buried in the kirkyard of Canongate Church.
