Surveyor and architect. Little is known of Brown's early years, but he seems to have served as a surveyor, laying out the streets of the New Town in Edinburgh and also as an architect. His most notable building is the Queen's Hall, built in 1823 as Hope Park Chapel.
In 1826, he also seems to have been responsible for inventing a machine to fight fires in tall buildings.
